The Glossary
is available through the internet, at important bookshops as well as in
public libraries and universities in the US, Venezuela, Spain, Mexico
and other Spanish-speaking countries. It was compiled by Raquel Yaker,
a conference interpreter and translator, member of AIIC (International
Association of Conference Interpreters - Geneva) and AVINC (Venezuelan
Association of Conference Interpreters). She worked on the Glossary for
5 years before its publication, gathering information from petroleum and
environment conferences, technical journals, books, and several other
dictionaries. |
Alberto Alazrachi - Editor - Yaker Publishing |
Yaker shows from page one the intellectual effort that went into producing a book that will become an essential item for any oil industry professional. The English and Spanish
entries cover the exploration, production, refining, and marketing of
petroleum and its by-products. This excellent edition also contains multiple
terms related to the environment, a critical area for oil people, as well
as many more references to the gas industry, a very topical issue in the
opening up of the Venezuelan industry to foreign investment. Since this is much more than just a glossary, there are extended definitions of some words and phrases that warrant a broader explanation. In line with the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words," a thirty page full-color appendix of drawings, diagrams and essential tables has been included, all of which refer to the oil and associated hydrocarbons industry. Many of the important words in the glossary can be found artistically presented on these pages. There is no doubt that this ample and up-to-date bilingual glossary is here to fill a vacuum in the Spanish-speaking world of petroleum and will be used on a daily basis in the industry. There´s no need to look for it. It´s already available!
